As part of our commitment to educating youth on healthy relationships and emotional health, we are relaunching our Strength in Being a Boy conference for young men in grades four, five and six. We are thrilled to have partnered with Calgary Sexual Health and facilitators from their WiseGuyz program to develop an impactful day for boys from throughout the Bow Valley that will explore consent, emotions, healthy relationships and empathy.

The free, full-day conference will be led by WiseGuyz and YWCA Banff staff, who will together educate the boys on consent, emotions, healthy relationships with self and others, and gender stereotypes. Men and boys are an essential part of the solution to ending gender-based violence, and Strength in Being a Boy will instil participants with positive ideas of masculinity, combating the toxic stereotypes often portrayed in media and imposed on them through peer pressure.

In 2018, the day was filled with fun activities including hip-hop turntables, scavenger hunt, baking, and other creative and movement-based activities. Facilitators will provide targeted education, skills development and support to participants in order to provide them with tools to pursue safe, healthy relationships and maintain their long-term mental and physical well-being.

Strength in Being a Boy is free of charge and will be offered in the spring of 2019.
