As part of YWCA’s commitment to promote healthy relationships and emotional health for youth, we are delighted to announce the return of our Strength in Being a Boy conference for boys in grades four, five and six. This conference is free of charge and will be held on Saturday, May 4 2019 from 9:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fenlands Banff Recreation Centre. Lunch & snack will be served.

We are thrilled to partner again with the Centre for Sexuality and facilitators from their WiseGuyz program to offer an impactful day for boys from throughout the Bow Valley. The full-day conference will be led by WiseGuyz and YWCA Banff staff, who will facilitate conversations about leadership, emotions, healthy relationships with self and others, and gender stereotypes.

In 2019, the day is filled with topics explored through fun activities including: hip hop turntables, scavenger hunt, and mask making. Facilitators will provide targeted education, skills development and support to participants in order to provide them with tools to pursue safe, healthy relationships and maintain their long-term mental and physical well-being.

Men and boys are an essential part of the solution to ending gender-based violence, and Strength in Being a Boy will instil participants with positive ideas of masculinity, combating stereotypes often portrayed in media and imposed on them through peer pressure.

Strength in Being a Boy is free of charge. Registration for this year’s program is now full – please contact 403.760.3200 to be placed on the wait list.
