Leaving a Legacy

Since 2015, Canmore locals including the late Jamie Perkins and four like-minded friends hosted an annual event to raise funds for YWCA Banff. Following his untimely passing, Jamie’s teammates carried on his meaningful legacy with Jamie Perkins Memorial Golf Tournament.

This year, our organization is expanding the event to invite more community members to participate in the YWCA Banff Charity Classic golf tournament & culinary experience.

About the Event

This year’s Charity Classic takes place on Sunday July 28th at Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club. The event brings together approximately 100 avid golfers from Canmore, Banff, our regional markets and beyond to raise money for this much needed Bow Valley project.

Leading up to this wonderful day on the links, Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club’s culinary team will host a 5-course dinner with wine pairings on Saturday, July 27th as part of the fundraiser.

Proceeds from the YWCA Banff Charity Classic will benefit our Higher Ground Project, our plan to bring a new, purpose-built facility to Canmore with a range of services that support people in our community, including women and families, to build their own thriving futures free from violence. Higher Ground will leverage the unique expertise of YWCA Banff and other local agencies to provide relevant, long-term support and a safe space for Bow Valley residents.

The Need

Over the past three years, YWCA Banff’s crisis calls increased by 127%. With the generous support of donors and funders, YWCA Banff served approximately 1,350 community members in the 2022-2023 fiscal year and provided 1,431 safe nights to clients accessing emergency sheltering programs. They responded to 671 crisis calls, of which 269 callers identified domestic violence, sexual violence, or both as the primary concern. The Higher Ground project will expand YWCA Banff’s capacity to deliver critical services across the Bow Valley including services for those experiencing domestic and sexual violence or housing insecurity.
