Help Light the Way to Hope

A single act of kindness can brighten a life. By giving to the Hope for the Holidays Fundraiser, you’re illuminating the way out of darkness for someone in crisis right here in the Bow Valley.
Your donation provides emergency shelter, supportive counselling, women’s circle, and prevention programs to your community.
Give the gift of light this holiday season and help ensure no one is left in the cold.

The Impact of Your Donation
Your generosity helps provide:
- Safe beds out of the cold
- Warm clothing
- Long-term supportive counselling
- Safety planning

“The safety of the shelter was so valuable to me when I first arrived. I did not feel as though I even deserved to be there, and [felt] that it would be impossible to start over. Having received the support of my outreach workers and the security of the shelter, I was able to find that confidence within myself to achieve my immediate goals. When I left I was so proud of all the steps I had taken to rebuild my life.”
— Amanda, Former Client
“All the staff at the shelter were extremely kind, generous, helpful, understanding, and non-judgemental. It was so wonderful to have a clean, quiet, safe place to heal [and] having the counsellors to speak to. I learned a lot about relationships, safety, self-love, and lots of great, healthy techniques to get me through the hard times in my life…You truly changed my life for the better, now and for the future.”
— Priya, Former Client

Sarah’s Story of Hope
Past YWCA Banff Client
Sarah’s story is one of resilience and empowerment, a testament to the determination of the human spirit and the true impact caring individuals can make when they open their hearts.
Sarah’s journey started on a cold winter night, with two young children in tow, leaving their abuser. With no money, no time to pack, and no-one to turn to, she was forced to make the brave choice to depart, despite the uncertainty her future held.
- Keep Reading Sarah's Story
90% of intimate partner violence occurs in the home, a place that should be a sanctuary. Leaving the abuse often means leaving the shared home, resulting in immediate instability.
Thanks to donors like you, YWCA Banff was able to be a beacon of light and hope when Sarah and her family arrived with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Initially, our staff set them up in emergency shelter. This gave them a place to breathe and feel safe after the trauma they endured. Essentials like warm clothes, toiletries, and groceries were provided, so that Sarah could focus on her next steps.
With access to childcare and counselling from the YWCA Banff, Sarah received emotional support and guidance that helped them rebuild their lives from the ground up. She completed job training, making it possible to not only find her own place to call home, but to achieve independence.
Stories like Sarah’s remind us of what’s possible when we come together to build safer communities. YWCA Banff’s emergency shelter units and crisis response are entirely funded through the generosity of donors. Help us keep a light on for the next Sarah who comes through our doors.
Together, we can create a community where safety is a right, not a privilege. Where those experiencing violence are met with compassion, resources, and pathways to healing. Your support helps ensure not only emergency shelter today but long-term change that prevents violence tomorrow.
